Sigiriya, also known as the Lion Rock, is an ancient rock fortress located in the central Matale District of Sri Lanka. It's a UNESCO World Heritage Site and one of the most iconic and historically significant landmarks in the country. Sigiriya dates back to the 5th century AD and was built by King Kasyapa I. It served as both a royal palace and a fortress. The site has great historical and archaeological significance, offering insights into ancient Sri Lankan culture, architecture, and engineering. |

Dambulla is a town located in the Matale District of Sri Lanka. It's renowned for its historical and cultural significance, primarily centered around the Dambulla Cave Temple, also known as the Golden Temple of Dambulla. |

In the city of Dambulla lies a hub which has been treasured by many kings since the 1st century B.C. Today, an icon in the face of Sri Lanka, Dambulla Rock Temple houses some of the most unique drawings in magnificently constructed 5 cave temples flanking the golden temple of Dambulla. Observe how exquisitely cave paintings are done along walls that shelter 150 statues of Lord Buddha. As you enter the retreat, look straight up to the gigantic Buddha statue glittering in gold over a land, which today houses an important junction in the country's economic and cultural uplifting. |

You can also visit the epic Seetha Amman Temple. She is said to have bathed in this stream and it is believed that Lord Hanuman the monkey God had visited Seethadevi here. Now there is temple for Lord Rama, Sitadevi, Luxshmana, and Hanuman by the side of this stream. It is interesting to note that foot prints akin to Lord Hanuman's are found by this river. |

| DAY 05: TRAVEL TO GALLE>VISIT KOSGODA>EXPLORE KOGGALA (B, L, D)

Walk clockwise within the fort to observe the 'old gate' carrying the British coat of arms. Flanking the old gate is the Zwart bastion - the oldest of all - and the lighthouse standing 18 feet in its glory next to the Point Utretcht Bastion. This Dutch bliss is painted with streets that spread in a rectangular grid pattern pierced with houses carrying Dutch colonial style verandas. |
