Yogyakarta City was the seat of power that produced the magnificent temples of Borobudur and Prambanan in the 8th and 9th centuries and the new powerful Mataram kingdom of the 16th and 17th century. Yogyakarta was known with the slogan of “Jogja The Never ending Asia“ for its endless appeals.
DAY 02: FULLDAY DIENG PLATEAU HIGHLAND TOUR (B, L, D)
Morning after breakfast, we will drive to Wonosobo via Temanggung where you could enjoy the Beautiful scenery of the Mountains. It is known for its natural beauty, cultural heritage, and agricultural activities. We will also pass through Sumbing Valley, passing by the tobacco and tea plantations.
Lunch is served at a local restaurant. We’ll then visit the Majestic Prambanan Temple, also known as Candi Prambanan. It is one of the most iconic and significant temple complexes in Southeast Asia and is a UNESCO World Heritage site. Prambanan was built during the 9th century during the reign of the Mataram Kingdom's Sanjaya Dynasty. It is dedicated to the Trimurti, the Hindu trinity of Brahma (the creator), Vishnu (the preserver), and Shiva (the destroyer). The temple complex is a masterpiece of Javanese architecture and consists of several temple structures. The central compound features three main temples dedicated to Shiva, Vishnu, and Brahma, surrounded by numerous smaller temples, each dedicated to various deities and mythological figures. (Guests only at courtyard are not allowed to go up to the temple)
Finally, we’ll drive to see the Amazing Active Sikidang Craters. Unlike some other volcanic craters, Sikidang is not a dormant or extinct crater but rather a bubbling and active one. Visitors can witness the geothermal activity in the form of boiling mud and sulfur deposits. The ground emits steam and gas, creating an otherworldly landscape.
End the day with paying a visit to the Calming and Beautiful Telaga Warna. Telaga Warna translates to "Colored Lake" in Indonesian, and it gets its name from the various colors that appear on the surface of the lake due to its unique chemical composition and the presence of different types of algae. The colors can change depending on the time of day and the angle of sunlight, creating a mesmerizing and picturesque sight. Visitors to Telaga Warna can enjoy the natural beauty of the lake and its surroundings. There is also a viewpoint that provides a panoramic view of the lake and the surrounding hills.
Back to Jogja. Dinner is served at a local restaurant.
DAY 03: CITY TOUR - BOROBUDUR - MALIOBORO (B, L, D)
Start the day by visiting “Kraton” - the Magnificent Royal Palace of the Sultan, located in the heart of Yogyakarta, Indonesia. It is one of the most iconic cultural and historical sites in Yogyakarta and serves as a testament to the city's rich Javanese heritage.
Thereafter proceed to Taman Sari Water Castle. It is an integral part of the Yogyakarta Sultanate's palace complex and is renowned for its unique architectural features and historical significance. The complex features a combination of Javanese and European architectural styles. It includes a series of bathing pools, pavilions, and underground passageways. The central feature of Taman Sari is the "Sumur Gumuling," a round building with a unique underground mosque. The name "Water Castle" comes from the numerous bathing pools and artificial lake within the complex. The sultan and his concubines used these pools for relaxation and recreation. The complex also had a system of underground tunnels connecting different areas.
Enjoy lunch at local restaurant. We will then directly make our way to the Largest Buddhist Temple in the World – the iconic Borobudur temple. (Guests only at courtyard are not allowed to go up to the temple). Borobudur was built during the 9th century during the reign of the Sailendra dynasty. It is believed to have been constructed between 750 and 850 CE. The temple served as a Mahayana Buddhist monument and a place of pilgrimage. Borobudur is an impressive stone structure built in the shape of a stepped pyramid. It consists of nine stacked platforms, including a central dome at the top. The temple is adorned with intricate carvings and sculptures, which depict stories from Buddhist texts and Javanese culture.
Shopping along Malioboro Street and Oleh oleh. Malioboro Street is an excellent place to buy traditional Javanese batik.
