DAY 02: EXPLORE THE GATEWAY OF HEAVEN | VISIT THE GARDENS OF TIRTHA GANGA | 1 HOUR BALINESE SPA (Breakfast/Lunch/Dinner)
➤ After breakfast depart for the Gateway of Heaven (Pura Lempuyang Temple an Ancient Mountain Temple in the East of Bali. This place has recently become famous due to countless photos posted on Instagram. A highlight on any travel itinerary for the fit and adventurous, the main temple lies at 1,175 metres above sea level, on the peak of the namesake Mount Lempuyang in East Bali. The heights are reachable via a steep staircase of over 1,700 steps, with attractions along the way that include several other temples and hordes of grey long-tailed macaques that inhabit the surrounding cool mountain forests. For those unwilling to take on the ascent up to the peak you can still enjoy the splendid views at the grand Pura Penataran Agung temple at the foot of the mountain. It’s the first to come into view on the way up and offers an impressive sight with its towering dragon staircases – perfect for photos. The best views are higher up the stairs, where you can see all across the green forested slopes and to neighbouring Mount Agung, Bali’s highest peak.
➤ After lunch at Maha Gangga proceed to Tirtha Gangga, a Water Palace in Bali which was a former royal palace that’s been turned into beautiful gardens. Owned and maintained by the royal Karangasem family, the lavish water gardens feature 1.2 hectares of pools, ponds and fountains surrounded by neatly cut lawns that are adorned with stepping stones, ornate statues and tropical gardens. It saw a series of restorations following the destructive hot showers of volcanic ash from the Mount Agung eruption in 1963. The hiking around Tirta Gangga is excellent.
